Image Processing
Image Adjustments
Who hasn't taken a picture? Today it seems like
everyone has a digital camera and snaps shots of
every major and minor event.
Jumping into digital photography opens a whole
new world of options that can be confusing. You may
have taken photos that are too dark, bright or
suffer from the infamous red-eye. Problems like
these can be overcome even after the photo is taken.
This process is called image processing.
Winning Solutions, Inc. (WSI), with offices
located in the heart of the Midwest (Iowa) and the
Southeast (Florida), has been involved with image
processing and image enhancement for years and
offers this branch of photography services to our
clients as a stand alone service or as part of other
services. Some clients have a large batch of images
that need to be resized for a particular medium.
Other clients have images or photography that
require some tweaking. These are all issues that can
be easily addressed by the WSI image processing
team.
Image processing isn't limited to digital
photography either. WSI can scan and/or enhance
images from other mediums as well.

Common Image Processing Questions
No matter what I do, I can't seem to take
pictures with out red eye. What is this from and can
you help me?
Red eye's can ruin a photograph of family and
friends. Many digital cameras and digital image
processing packages offer some form of red eye
removal. But even some of those features don't
always seem to work.
Red eye's in photographs is caused by light
being reflected off the back of a persons eye.
The moment the photo is taken light from a flash
or from ambient light in the room can be
captured. We doesn't see this when we walk
around our day to day life because our heads
don't come with an attached 1000 watt flash
bulb.
Adjusting the delay of your flash on your
digital camera can help to reduce red eye. Your
camera may also have a setting or feature that
allows for post image processing that will
remove the anomaly.
If you have photographs that you have already
taken and want to have them reprocessed
digitally, WSI can scan your photograph's and
digitally remove red eye as well as use image
processing techniques to increase the overall
clarity and richness of your favorite photos.

I have some images that are blurry can you fix
those?
Adding a little blur here and there on snap
shots can really add a bit of flare to the
subject. When the whole image is blurry, it's
hard to tell what you are looking at. Many times
through digital enhancement and photographic
post processing, a blurry image can be enhanced
to remove a noticeable amount of the haziness.
A helpful tip for amateur photographers that
experience issues with blurry images is to
increase your shutter speed or by a tripod to
mount your camera on.

My images look washed out and lack color, is
there anything that can be done?
When images look "washed out" or lack color
they are often suffering from a contrast issue.
The image may be over bright and everything in
the image may appear white. If the image suffers
from the opposite, it may be due to over
exposure. Either of these problems relate to
brightness and contrast and can be solved with
minor image processing.
Sometimes, images can be inappropriately
color balanced. This type of effect can be seen
on older televisions where one of the picture
tubes colors has become over bearing. People may
appear to be overly tan or look like they just
stepped out of a two hour tanning session. These
images can also be corrected to a certain extent
with image processing.

image processing issues,

I have an image with a person or object that I
want removed. Can you magically remove them?
The answer to this question is highly
dependant on the images in question, but many
times objects, including people, can be removed
from an image.
A WSI image processing specialist can review
your image or images to decide if the
possibility of object abstraction can be removed
with out damaging the overall image quality.
